About

Youngmeen Kim, Ph.D.

Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics, Georgia State University

I am a computational linguist and corpus linguistics researcher. My work sits at the intersection of language, data, and human behavior: I use corpus methods, machine learning, and explainable AI to study how language reflects cognition, emotion, and learning.

My dissertation, “Language as a Reflection of Human Minds: Machine Learning-Based Corpus Analysis of Linguistic Patterns in Online Mental Health Communities,” combined machine learning, topic modeling, and corpus-linguistic approaches to analyze depression-related language at scale. That line of work has been published in Corpus-based Studies across Humanities and covered by NBC 11Alive, the Georgia State University Newsroom, and Phys.org, among others.

Beyond mental health language, I study second-language development with learner corpora, advise on NLP methods for legal-document interpretation, and build generative-AI systems that support recently immigrated English learners. I have taught university courses in linguistics and Korean, and I work in Korean, English, and French.
